Artist Statement

My work will be perceived in a different way by each individual. Explanations only narrow the viewer’s perception. As I work, my past dictates the direction a particular piece will take. The viewer brings a different set of experiences and an interaction takes place which allows for personal interpretations. A worthwhile piece of art should evoke or provoke in a way to cause a different reaction from each person; consequently, the artist effectively creates pieces open to the variety of people who view the work. This is essentially true with non-objective art and applies to representational work when it depicts subject matter with psychological implications. My figurative sculpture seems to arouse a variety of emotions from viewers – a fact I attribute to echoes of their experience.
