Ergood's Store and Hall

Photo of Ergood's Store and Hall.

John R. Ergood was one of Winter Park's first merchants. His store was the third building that was erected in Winter Park. It stood at the corner of North Park Avenue and Boulevard (later named Morse Boulevard). The first floor of the building was indeed the store, but this building served other important purposes for the new town as well: the second floor of the building functioned as both the Town Hall and the first public school; the rear of the building housed the city’s first Post Office, and Mr. Ergood was named postmaster in 1887.
