Henry Stedman Chubb

Henry Stedman Chubb was a born in Wisconsin on March 24th, 1858. When he was quite young, his parents returned to their native state of Vermont, so where he grew up and attended school there.
In 1880, he came to Winter Park at the request of Colonel Franklin Fairbanks. Fairbanks asked him to take charge of the Fairbanks, Morse and Knowles properties, and to assist in planting orange groves. In addition to his duties with Fairbanks, Henry S. Chubb became the first general freight and passenger agent for the Winter Park-Orlando Railroad (Dinky Line). In 1887, he was elected an alderman of the newly incorporated Town of Winter Park and in 1890, he was elected mayor. He was re-elected in 1891, serving two terms.
Mr. Chubb became state chairman of the Republican Party of Florida in 1899, and served as national committeeman. He had a gift of leadership and was a man of high political ideals. In 1904 he was re-elected as an alderman of Winter Park.
Henry Stedman Chubb died on January 6th, 1918 and is buried in Palm Cemetery in Winter Park.
