Located on the eastern shore of Lake Osceola, The Palms was built in 1899 as a winter cottage by Edward Hill Brewer. The home was renovated in 1924 to duplicate Brewer’s other residence in Cortland, New York. Originally, the house was constructed with clapboard and was covered with a wooden shingle roof. The veranda boasted a spindle-balustrade. In 1937- 38, architect James Gamble Rogers II redesigned the interior at the request of the owners at that time, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Detmar Trismen.

The Palms was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 22, 1982.
