The Safety Cab Company

The Safety Cab Company, founded by J.T. Ellis in 1932, stood at 120 Park Avenue (Greeneda Court is on that site now), and later on East Lyman.  Born in Greenwood, Kentucky, Ellis moved to Central Florida in 1926.  Unlike taxi services in other cities, all requests for the Safety Cab Company were done over the telephone.  The company was bought out by the Yellow Cab Company of Orlando in 1976.  Ellis' brother, B. Guy Ellis, Jr., owned Ellis Automotive Service on Morse Boulevard.  The 1940 photographs of the snowman feature Guy, Jr. as a young boy and Mabel, J.T.'s wife.
