Overview

The Winter Park Public Library with The Mennello Museum of American Folk Art received a grant from United Arts of Central Florida, Inc. to digitize the archives of folk artist Earl Cunningham.   Collectors Marilyn and Michael Mennello of Winter Park acquired the Cunningham archives in the process of collecting his art work over the past several decades.

In 1988 the City of Orlando opened The Mennello Museum of American Folk Art.   The basis of the museum's collection is the work of Earl Cunningham, whose paintings were donated by Marilyn and Michael Mennello.

This digitization project grant allows for the scanning, storing the scanned images on CD's, (one CD for the Library and one for the Museum), preservation and storing the original documents in archival document cases.   All original archival documents will be housed at the Museum.   A selection of the scanned images will be published on the Library's web page.

This project is funded in part by the United Arts of Central Florida, Inc., by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The reference resources used for the biographical information on Earl Cunningham was taken from:   Earl Cunningham Painting an American Eden by Robert Hobbs and Earl Cunningham Dreams Realized by The Mennello Museum of American Folk Art.
