CineMagic: Seeing Movies through Mystical Eyes

Watch a feature-length film and explore the filmmaker’s use of color, light, sound and story to communicate wisdom, truth and sociopolitical subjects.

Day/Time: Fridays, 7-10 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)

Dates and descriptions:

February 8 – A program of animated shorts in a variety of styles.

February 15 – Schultze, a polka-playing accordionist from Germany discovers and falls in love with Zydeco music.  This fascination takes him on a a life-changing journey to Louisiana. 

March 14 French superstars Daniel Autiel and Gerard Depardieu star in this comedy about a corporate nebbish about to be fired who experiences a turn of fortune as a result of a rumor about him spreading through the office!

March 21 – The true story of an ill-fated 1928 expedition to the North Pole - in a dirigible.  This arctic adventure stars Peter Finch, Sean Connery and Claudia Cardinale.

Bach Festival Fred Rogers' Series

Enjoy a morning of theatre, lunch and camaraderie!  Partner with a Rollins student to see "Anonymous 4" - what The Wall Street Journal calls "a powerhouse, popular beyond imagining for an early-music ensemble."  Stay for delicious lunch, hosted by Rollins College.  Seats available for 50 persons - register now!

Cultural Friday - Standing in the Shadows of Motown film

In 1959 Berry Gordy gathered the best musicians from Detroit's thriving jazz and blues scene to begin cutting songs for his new record company.  This film is the story of the Funk Brothers - the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music.

Smith Grant Research Presentation - "Peter C. Samwell: Winter Park Architect"

Join Winter Park resident Grady McClendon, recipient of the 2007-2008 Rhea Marsh and Dorothy Lockhart Smith research grant, as he shares his study results in this community presentation.  Some of Samwell's designs include the Aloma Golf Course Clubhouse (1926) and the Hamilton Hotel (1923 - now the Park Plaza Hotel).
